The Key Account Manager is a field-based role responsible for developing and maintaining strategic relationships with electrophysiology healthcare providers, hospital systems, integrated delivery networks (IDNs), and other key healthcare stakeholders to deliver exceptional service and measurable outcomes.
This individual serves as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of accounts, driving internal account growth and retention while collaborating with internal teams to deliver exceptional service, measurable outcomes, and customer satisfaction. The Key Account Manager manages accounts through disciplined planning, customer engagement, market analysis, and execution of approved commercial strategies: developing trusted customer relationships, identifying growth opportunities, communicating approved clinical and service information compliantly, and partnering internally to support onboarding, service delivery, and
patient monitoring initiatives.
The ideal candidate is proactive, customer-focused, and experienced in navigating the unique needs of healthcare organizations.
Key Responsibilities
Territory & Account Planning
- Develop and execute territory business plans that prioritize high-value accounts, growth opportunities, and customer needs
- Manage the territory through effective customer targeting, call planning, account prioritization, and performance analysis.
- Develop a deep understanding of each customer’s business goals, operational challenges, and success metrics.
Customer Relationships
- Own the decision-making relationships within each account, including electrophysiologists and physician leaders, practice administrators and practice managers, service line and department directors, and hospital, IDN, and health system contracting, supply chain, and finance leaders.
- Build and maintain a decision-making map in CRM for each account that identifies who influences, approves, and signs contracting and partnership decisions.
- Serve as the senior point of contact for an assigned portfolio of accounts, leading partnership planning, contract renewal discussions, and escalations that require an account-level owner.
- Maintain working familiarity with the day-to-day clinical and administrative users in each account, including device clinic nurses, technicians, and advanced practice providers, engaging them for feedback and issue identification while clinical and operations teams own routine service delivery.
- Communicate approved clinical and service information accurately and compliantly.
Account Performance & Growth
- Conduct regular business reviews to demonstrate value and evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and recommend improvements.
- Monitor customer health, engagement, and satisfaction through defined KPIs and customer feedback.
- Identify opportunities to expand services and collaborate with sales leadership on account growth initiatives.
- Monitor contract renewals and work proactively to maximize customer retention.
- Review account performance against the communicated SLAs and KPIs, and translate the results into value, risk, and improvement recommendations for customers and internal leadership.
Customer Advocacy & Issue Resolution
- Proactively identify and resolve customer issues by coordinating with operations, clinical, and support teams.
- Advocate for customers internally to ensure timely resolution of concerns and continuous service improvement.
- Collaborate with internal partners to support access, service availability, and patient support initiatives.
Market Insight & Intelligence
- Capture and communicate customer insights, clinical feedback, competitive intelligence, and market trends to appropriate internal stakeholders.
- Provide field insights to support brand and marketing strategy, customer strategy, and commercial decision-making.
- Stay informed on healthcare industry trends, regulatory changes, and evolving customer needs.
Administration & Compliance
- Maintain accurate customer records, meeting notes, and account plans within the CRM.
- Complete administrative responsibilities accurately and on time, including expense reporting, resource tracking, and territory reporting.
- Operate at all times in accordance with company policies, compliance requirements, and applicable healthcare regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 5-7 years minimum of account management, key account, or field sales experience in healthcare, medical device, diagnostics, or a related industry.
- Demonstrated success managing a defined geography or account portfolio against performance objectives.
- Experience building relationships with physicians, clinical staff, and administrative decision-makers.
- Strong business acumen, analytical skills, and the ability to translate data into account strategy.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms and standard business software.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the assigned territory, including overnight travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience in electrophysiology, cardiac rhythm management, or remote cardiac monitoring.
- Familiarity with hospital systems, IDNs, and academic medical center purchasing and contracting dynamics.
- Ideal candidate would have an established list of contacts in the electrophysiology, cardiac rhythm management, and/or remote cardiac monitoring space.
- Working knowledge of remote monitoring reimbursement, CPT coding, and billing
- Strong ability to translate data/analytics into meaningful ROI for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience conducting formal business reviews with enterprise-level healthcare clients.
Working Conditions
This is a field-based position requiring regular travel within the assigned geography, including customer sites, hospitals, and clinical practices. Some overnight and occasional national travel may be required for meetings, training, and industry events.
