In cardiology device clinics nationwide, the rising number of past patients receiving cardiac implanted electronic devices (CIEDs) and the complex nature of these devices have posed significant challenges. Clinics are finding it difficult to manage increasing workloads. Thus, experienced staff members are either retiring or seeking new career paths due to burnout and lack of adequate support.
Recently, there are clinics that have started to take action by reaching out to third-party vendors that specialize in CIED monitoring, such as CV Remote Solutions (CVRS). CV Remote Solutions offers a viable solution to this problem. With a team of highly trained clinicians, we specialize in CIED monitoring and have collaborated with clinics nationwide, providing the support they need to manage their influx of CIED patients effectively.
Consider a real-world scenario:
A clinic caring for 6000 CIED patients with only two nurses is handling both in-clinic and remote monitoring. This equates to 36,000+ device evaluations per year. The clinic staff was unable to keep up the volume of remote transmissions and had a backlog of 4,000 unviewed transmissions dating back six months. The clinic was also receiving 125-150 new transmissions each day. Therefore, they decided to take action and partnered with CVRS.
Together, CVRS and the clinic staff collaborated and defined responsibilities for the remote transmissions, established documentation standards, and set alert protocols and escalation procedures. We were able to alleviate the strain of the daily volume of transmissions and utilizing the CVRS skilled clinicians, within 6 weeks had the 4,000 unviewed transmissions completed.
Additionally, the CVRS team synchronized the industry site schedules with the clinic’s Electronic Medical Records (EMR), reached out to patients with missed appointments, and disconnected monitor patients. This thereby provided a more accurate representation of the patients under the clinic’s care.
Today the backlog is cleared, the daily alerts streamlined and managed first, and the scheduled transmission processed. Also, the communication and collaboration between CVRS and the clinic staff are fluid. As a result, the clinic can now adapt to staff changes and increased patient volume without compromising on patient care.
